Sasha Waters Freyer is a very interesting lunchtime lecture. The fact that she didn’t become exactly what she wanted to be as an artist is a new pragmatic point of view to these presentations. Her emphasis on supporting yourself and also your art with a day job gives a refreshing air of realism for the people who love art but don’t know if they can make a career out of it. I like the connections that you can find across all these different mediums in art from visual to literature to film. When thinking of the modern day Kehinde Wiley type of painting, where its almost an assembly line of painters connects directly to this idea of collaborative filmmaking. ALSO I LOVE EXPERIMENTAL HER FILM, it remind me of a collage painting but in video format if that makes any sense, and I connect with it on a unexplored sublevel of my mind that immediately likes it. I really enjoy the way that she makes sure to connect the arts because I feel like we are not able to do that when in these genre specific art classes (visual, film, photography, lit, drama ect.) creating this disconnect of representation and also a corrupt mindset on what art truly is. Waters Freyer’s being able to adapt her mindset and interests into something that works for her and is also successful is truly inspiring.
